NATO has accepted Ukraine’s application for fast-track membership

Jens Stoltenberg had backed Kiev’s right to apply – Possible emergency teleconference next week in Alliance

In the hands of the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg Ukraine’s application for membership in the Alliance is located.

“Every democracy in Europe has the right to apply for NATO membership and NATO Allies respect that right. We have stated time and again that NATO’s door remains open,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted when asked about it on September 30.

He had also stated that any decision taken at NATO it needs unanimity, i.e. the agreement of all 30 allies, which at present seems to take longer to achieve.

According to information, next week an extraordinary summit conference will probably take place with the aim of emphasizing the support of the Allies in Ukraine.

It should be noted that in 2008, at the NATO summit in Bucharest, a NATO-Ukraine rapprochement process was initiated based on the country’s participation in the Partnership for Peace program. This program was implemented in 1994 to enable each participant to develop a bilateral relationship with NATO, choosing its own priorities for cooperation, as well as the level and pace of progress.

In 2008, similar steps were taken for Georgia.
