73-year-old former prime minister is running in Nov. 1 election – Tested and says he’s feeling better

The former Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahua candidate in the Nov. 1 parliamentary election, left a service at a Jerusalem synagogue this evening due to unwellness, his services announced, saying the veteran politician was now “feeling fine.”

Netanyahu, who will turn 73 in two weeks, “felt bad” while praying inside a Jerusalem synagogue during the “Neila” service, held as part of the Yom Kippur celebration, Day of Atonementone of the most important days of the Jewish calendar, his services announced.

“He underwent a series of tests on site and they were normal. He is now feeling well. However, for the avoidance of doubt, the former Prime Minister independently intends to go to hospital to undergo tests,” they added.

Netanyahu’s services did not say more about his illness, but Israeli media reported “chest pains”

The Prime Minister Yair LapidNetanyahu’s opponent in November’s parliamentary elections, wished him a “speedy and full recovery,” in a message on Twitter.

Israelis go to the polls on November 1, for the fifth time in three and a half years, in parliamentary elections that could return Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in the country’s history, to the fore. Netanyahu stepped down in the spring of 2021, succeeded by a motley coalition now led by Lapid.

The latest polls put Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud, which has been accused of corruption, in first place in voter intentions with just over 30 seats in the 120-member Knesset (parliament).

His “right-wing coalition”, which also includes ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties, is flirting with the majority threshold (61 MPs) but not guaranteed to reach it, according to opinion polls.
