“Inspections at the crime scenes reinforced suspicions of high-profile sabotage. Confiscations have been made on the spot which will be examined,” the special prosecutor points out

This week’s first inspections by Swedish authorities at the site of the leaks at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic “reinforce suspicions of sabotage with explosions” that caused “serious damage”, announced today the prosecution.

“We are able to establish that explosions occurred near Nord Stream 1 and 2 within the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone, which caused serious damage to the natural gas pipelines,” the special prosecutor in charge of the Swedish investigation said in a statement.

“Inspections at the crime scenes reinforced suspicions of high-profile sabotage. Materials have been seized on the spot and will be examined.”

Sweden, which had blocked off a sea zone of several kilometers for research purposes, lifted the restrictions.

Not given no information on how the underwater inspection was carried out.

On the Swedish side, the Intelligence Service took over the direction of the investigation in cooperation with a special prosecutor and various Swedish agencies.

Massive leaks caused by explosions of unknown origin on September 26 occurred in the natural gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2. The leaks in Nord Stream 1 stopped on Monday, while a small leak in Nord Stream 2 continued this morning, according to the Swedish Coast Guard.

Under the weight of suspicion that it was responsible for the sabotage, Russia spent the past week counterattacking to pin the blame on the US.

At the same time, Russia is excluded from the gas leak investigation with the press representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova characterizing this decision as “unthinkable”.
