Sales of women’s thermals more than doubled last week compared to a week earlier, while the best seller is the hooded blanket
British consumers are stocking up on insulated underwear, gloves and robes to help them cope with the cold this winter as they try to avoid turning on the heating to save money.
Sales of hooded blankets, indoor tracksuits, thermals, robes and slippers have soared in recent weeks, according to John Lewis, Britain’s biggest department store chain.
Energy bills have risen this year and consumers are facing high inflation on all goods, including food, and mortgage rates have started to rise leading to a sharp rise in the cost of living.
For this reason, the option of saving money in the above ways instead of running the heating seems attractive, and as John Lewis explains, its customers buy extra isothermals to withstand the winter.
Sales of women’s thermals more than doubled last week compared to a week earlier, while the hooded blanket is a bestseller.
But indoor one-pieces have also been off the shelves much earlier than usual, according to the same department store, in a sign that consumers are buying them for warmth rather than gifts in the run-up to Christmas.
