According to Eurostat it increased by 16% in August
A simple cup of coffee tends to develop into an expensive habit, at least as the statistical service of the European Union announced today. According to the same data, the jump in the price of the product along with the cost of sugar and milk, are pushing the price of coffee to the heights
“Recent price increases make this staple almost a luxury item,” Eurostat said, noting that average coffee prices jumped 16.9 percent in August from a year earlier.
Fresh whole milk now costs 24.3% more on average, while consumers paid 22.2% more for fresh low-fat milk, Eurostat said.
THE sugar recorded the biggest increase, with the average price jumping 33.4%.
The data showed that prices increased for these four products in all EU member states, except Malta, where the price of fresh low-fat milk remained unchanged.
Finland and Lithuania saw them higher changes in coffee prices, with increases of 43.6% and 39.9% respectively, followed by Sweden and Estonia.
Poland recorded the biggest jump in the price of sugar, rising 109.2% since August 2021.
