Bayer Prizes for war correspondents were awarded today to reporting mostly about the war in Ukraine: to the Associated Press for photojournalism, France 5 for television reporting, France Info-RTS for radio and Sidwaya publications for the printed press.
In addition to Burkina Faso (print), reporting covering Russia’s invasion of Ukraine took first prizes at this 29th edition, although Afghanistan also took center stage.

In the print media, the first prize of the international committee went to Mariam Ouedraogo, for the report “The Dablo-Kaia axis: the women’s road to hell” on Burkina Faso (Sidwaya publications) and the West France-Jean Marin Award to Nicolas Notes on the report “Ukraine, the convoy of the last chance”, published in Paris Match.
On television, Theo Maneval and Pierre Deurne were awarded the first Amnesty International award for the Ukraine report “Victor and the Kiss of War” shown by France 5. Philip Cox of the Guardian was also awarded for the report “The Spiderman of Sudan”.
On the radio, the international committee gave the award to Maureen Mercier (France Info-RTS) who recorded the testimony of a woman and her daughter about “two weeks of rape and terror in Butsa”, again in Ukraine.
