Turkey: Reactions from the opposition on the memorandum with Libya

by

“Greece and Egypt have signed an agreement…For the foreign minister to say ‘we don’t care’ is a problem,” Amdurrahman Bilgtis said.

He has provoked the reactions of the opposition – among others – in Turkey the signing of the memorandum of cooperation with Libya for the exploitation of hydrocarbons, as reported by Constantinople the correspondent of SKAI, Manolis Kostidis.

THE Amdurrahman Bilgtis, coordinator of Foreign Affairs and Security Policies of the DEVA (Babacan) party, stated that the (Turkish) government claims that the content of the agreement was also ratified by the UN, while this is not the case. “Here we are talking about an agreement between the two countries.”

“With the new agreement we say that we will extract gas and oil on the coasts off Libya, in the areas of maritime areas of responsibility. Fine, let’s do it. But Greece and Egypt have signed an agreement defining maritime areas of responsibility and, as we know, points where the two agreements overlap. And if you continue the work, it means that you are saying that you do not recognize the agreement of others. And the foreign minister told us: who cares what we care about. Well, this style has a problem”said the representative of the Turkish opposition.
