The Biden Democracy Summit Invited and Excluded List; listen to podcast

The Democracy Summit began this Thursday (9) and ends this Friday (10), an event called by US President Joe Biden to debate democracy and authoritarian threats around the world.

In the opening speech of the meeting, Biden cited setbacks in the global political freedom ranking pointed out by Freedom House and stated that the commitments to democracy need to be constantly renewed. The

Biden’s guest list is revealing of American geopolitical interests and conflicts. The Democrat called 110 countries and the European Union to the event, but left out some of his main opponents – the case of China and Russia.

In this Friday (10)’s episode, Breakfast talks with the coordinator of the International Relations course at USP, Felipe Loureiro, about Biden’s objectives with the Democracy Summit, the meaning of the list of invited countries and what this event represents for US-China relations.
