The Ukrainian president requests support for his country from international donors
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky claimed today that financial support for his country from international donors will help bring the devastating war to an end more quickly.
According to Zelensky, $38 billion will be needed to cover the estimated shortfall in next year’s budget.
“The more help Ukraine receives now, the faster we will end the war with Russia and ensure that such a brutal war does not spread to other countries,” Zelensky said speaking online at a forum on the sidelines of the annual meeting of International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington.
The Ukrainian president said his country needs $17 billion to rebuild damaged homes, schools and critical infrastructure, $2 billion in targeted loans to restore power grid infrastructure and at least $5 billion to natural gas and coal market. He also added that Ukraine will seek to join a loan program IMF, of up to $20 billion.
