“143 nations have stood on the side of freedom, national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the US president added in a press release released by his administration.

The condemnation by the great majority of the United Nations General Assembly of the “illegal annexations” of four Ukrainian regions to Russia sent a “clear message” to Moscow, US President Joe Biden noted with satisfaction, stressing that Russia “cannot erase a sovereign state from the map”.

“143 nations have stood on the side of freedom, national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the US president added in a press release released by his administration.

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, exaggerated by stressing that “the vast majority of countries stood by Ukraine, in favor of the UN Charter”, and expressed “its categorical opposition to Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine” and of its people”.

“Russia’s violent disregard of Ukraine’s national borders and national sovereignty cannot and will not be tolerated,” he added. The head of US diplomacy noted that the “international unity” is “clear” on this issue.

The UN General Assembly “condemned” the recent “illegal annexations” of four Ukrainian regions by Russia, passing a relevant resolution last night with 143 votes in favor, 5 against and 35 abstentions.

In addition to Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Nicaragua voted against the text. The votes in favor were two more than the 141 that approved the text condemning the invasion half a year ago. Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Turkey voted in favor.

Key powers such as China, India, Pakistan and South Africa were absent.
