The far-right conspiracy theorist is asked to pay a heavy price for his slander Alex Jones to his families Sandy Hook.

The founder of the far-right website Infowars (parent of Free Speech Systems ) will pay nearly $1 billion ($965 million – €995 million) to the families of eight victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre and to an FBI agent (William Altenberg) who responded to the 2012 incident, which killed 20 first-graders and six teachers.

Jones was found liable for defamation after just hours after the massacre, and for years, he lied, calling the shootings a hoax, and accusing the families of the victims of being complicit actors in the plot.

In August, jurors in a separate case in Texas decided that Jones must pay nearly $50 million to the parents of Jesse Lewis, a 6-year-old who was killed in Sandy Hook. The actual amount, however, will be much less due to state limits placed on the amounts awarded. Jones has a third Sandy Hook trial pending before him.

The Sandy Hook school attack

On December 14, 2012, a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, USA, killed 20 students and six faculty members, and then committed suicide. The incident generated international interest and reignited the debate in the US about the legal status of gun ownership.

On the morning of December 14th, twenty-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother, Nancy, and then drove to the elementary school. Shortly after 9:35 A.M. armed with three semi-automatic handguns, which his mother legally owned, he bypassed the school’s locked door by shooting through a pane of glass, then opened fire indiscriminately on anyone in front of him. Most of his victims had been shot multiple times. The last shot was heard at 9:40 am. so Lanza committed suicide.

As soon as the incident was reported, the then president of the USA, Mr Barack Obamaexpressed his grief and ordered four days of mourning across the country with flags at half-mast on all public buildings, underscoring “We’ve had many similar tragedies over the years, whether it’s at an elementary school in Newtown, a mall in Oregon, a church in Wisconsin, a movie theater in Colorado, or on a street corner in Chicago. These neighborhoods are our neighborhoods and these kids are ours. our children. So we should come together and take action to prevent more tragedies regardless of politics.”while expressing his condolences to the families of the victims.

The municipality of Newtown decided to demolish the school and build a new one on the same site because many parents refused to send their children there.
