The appeal of the decision made by the British court to allow the extradition of Assaz to the USA was announced by his fiancée, Stella Morris.
He said “we will appeal this decision as soon as possible” and denounced “a serious judicial error”.
U.S. authorities have charged 50-year-old Assange with 18 counts of leaking WikiLeaks more than 700,000 classified documents on U.S. military and diplomatic activities, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Washington complains that lives were endangered by this leak.
If convicted, Assange faces up to 175 years in prison, a case which his supporters say is a serious attack on press freedom.
In January, British Judge Vanessa Barreicer rejected Washington’s request for Assange to be extradited to the United States, saying there was a risk of suicide.
But Washington appealed the decision, mainly questioning the credibility of an expert who testified in favor of Assange regarding his sensitive mental health.
