As Buckingham Palace announced, the teddy bears have been collected and will be given to the Barnardo’s charity, of which Queen Elizabeth II has been a beneficiary for nearly three decades.
More than a thousand teddy bears — most of them in the shape of Paddington, the popular fairy-tale hero — left by Britons outside the royal family’s residences as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II will be handed over to a charity for vulnerable children.
As Buckingham Palace announced, the teddy bears have been collected and will be given to the Barnardo’s charity, of which Queen Elizabeth II has been a beneficiary for nearly three decades.
“We promise to look after these teddies who will be well-loved and bring joy to the children we support,” said Barnardo’s Foundation Chief Executive Lynne Perry.
With his red hat and blue coat, Paddington Bear has been one of the most popular characters in British children’s literature since the 1950s.
As part of the celebrations to mark 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II starred in a humorous video with the famous teddy bear. Among other things, she had confided in him that she makes sure she always has a jam sandwich (Paddington’s favorite) in her bag. The video, which quickly went viral, was one of the last happy memories of Queen Elizabeth – who passed away on September 8, aged 96.
