Sweden: The new far-right government is expected to receive a vote of confidence today

Christerson will succeed Eva Magdalena Andersson, ending eight years of Sweden’s rule by the Social Democrats

The leader of Sweden’s conservative faction Ulf Christerson he is expected to receive a vote of confidence today and formally become the new prime minister of Sweden.

Mr Christerson, head of the Moderate party, needs a vote of confidence from the members of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament). If he is not voted against, his new government will be presented tomorrow Tuesday and will be sworn in by King Charles Ist Gustavus.

The Moderates will form a minority government with the Christian Democrats and the Liberals and work closely, albeit unofficially, with the far-right populist Sweden Democrats, which emerged from the neo-Nazi movement.

The right-wing camp of the Moderates of Christerson and the Sweden Democrats secured a narrow majority – 176 of the 349 seats in the Swedish national delegation – in the September 11 parliamentary elections.

Mr Christerson will succeed Eva Magdalena Andersson, ending eight years of Sweden’s rule by the Social Democrats.
