Ofsianikova is currently “under the protection of a European state,” her lawyer said, declining to elaborate as “this could prove to be a problem” for her.

Russian journalist Marina Ofsyankova, who was placed under house arrest for criticizing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has left Russia with her daughter, her lawyer said.

“Ofsianikova left Russia with her daughter a few hours after leaving her apartment where she had been placed under house arrest,” said her lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov, adding that mother and daughter are in Europe.

Ofsianikova is currently “under the protection of a European state,” her lawyer said, declining to elaborate as “this could prove to be a problem” for her.

A Moscow court, examining today the question of the custody of Ofsianikova’s minor daughter, decided that the custody of the child should be given to her father, with whom the journalist has divorced. As the SOTA website writes, the guardianship department stated that “the child should remain with his father because his mother is engaged in political activity.”

The court ruled that Ofsianikova should pay maintenance for both her children 35,000 rubles (577.3 euros) and when her son comes of age, 17,000 rubles (280.4 euros).

Her husband Igor Ofsianikov himself had earlier stated that Marina Ofsianikova left house arrest and took her 11-year-old daughter with her.

Ofsianikova has not yet made any statement. Her last post on her Telegram channel, in which she said she will not abide by the home confinement regulations, was on October 5.
