Israel’s president will pay a two-day visit to the United States, just days before Israeli parliamentary elections.
US President Joe Biden will meet with his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog in Washington on October 26, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre announced today.
Herzog will pay a two-day visit to the United States, Israel’s closest ally. The talks between the two leaders will cover bilateral issues as well as “regional and global challenges”, according to the White House spokeswoman.
The Israeli president’s visit to the US will come at a time of tension and uncertainty over the future of Iran’s nuclear program, with Joe Biden’s administration attempting to revive a deal that would restore international control of the program – in return the lifting of sanctions against Tehran – and Israel to oppose it.
The White House spokeswoman said that the issue of “the well-being and security of Israelis and Palestinians” will also be raised at the meeting between the two presidents.
Isaac Herzog’s trip to the US — just days before Israeli parliamentary elections — follows the historic agreement reached last week on the demarcation of the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by Washington.
