Actor João Guilherme Ávila, 20, son of country singer Leonardo, criticized on social media his father’s support for the re-election of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), this Monday afternoon (17). He made several posts on Twitter after a meeting of country singers with Bolsonaro at Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the presidency, declaring support in the second round of the elections.
“Today I’m sad. I’m well aware of my father’s influence, he’s a giant, loved by so many… But he plays for the wrong team and he’s blind,” tweeted João Guilherme. “In the face of all the latest scandals involving the current president, seeing someone so important to me declare support in this way disgusts me,” he wrote in another post.
The actor wrote that it’s as if he doesn’t have two older sisters, who are already 14 and 15 years old or nieces – in reference to a statement by Bolsonaro in a podcast in which he uses the expression “painted a climate” to refer to teenagers. Venezuelans went viral on social media and became ammunition for opponents of the president.
João Guilherme also remembered the people who died from Covid in Brazil. “As if all the deaths linked to the government’s disregard for science and vaccination were a single delusion. I apologize for my father’s lack of education and sensitivity. I love him, so I apologize.”
The actor, who declared his vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on October 1, also said that Bolsonaro supporters fear the “red danger” so much and that “Bolsonaro’s hand is full of blood.” The position came just a day after Leonardo and Zé Felipe showed support for the current president in a video that circulated on the internet.
Criticized by netizens who said that he is supported by Leonardo, the actor asked to stop these speeches because he thinks differently from his father. “This is disrespectful to my mother’s family who raised and educated me. I never depended on him [Leonardo]”, wrote João Guilherme, adding that alimony is the mother’s right to take care of a child generated by two people.
