According to the country’s energy minister, Herman Halushenko, 40 to 50% of the photovoltaic installations have been destroyed.
Ukraine has lost about 90% of its wind power infrastructure since the war began with Russia’s invasion on February 24, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushenko said on Sunday.
40 to 50% of photovoltaic installations have also been destroyed, Mr. Halushenko added during an interview he gave to a Ukrainian television station.
The minister did not specify the capacity of the facilities, but said that Kyiv had significantly expanded its infrastructure for generating energy from renewable sources. Before the war, renewables contributed 10 to 11 percent of the energy mix, he noted, but now Ukraine is more dependent than ever on fossil fuels and nuclear power.
In recent days, the Russian army seems to have embarked on a campaign to destroy the infrastructure that guarantees the electricity and heating of a large part of the country.
