USA – Ipsos poll: Biden’s popularity dropped to 39%

Joe Biden’s low popularity raises the specter that Republicans will win control of the House of Representatives on November 8, if not all of Congress (provided they also gain control of the Senate).

Two weeks before the Nov. 8 midterm elections, US President Joe Biden’s approval rating has fallen to near the lowest level of his tenure, according to an Ipsos poll on behalf of the Reuters agency that was released on Tuesday.

According to the findings of the two-day survey, 39% of Americans approve of the work of President Biden, a percentage decreased by one point compared to a poll last week.

Joe Biden’s low popularity raises the specter that Republicans will win control of the House of Representatives on November 8, if not all of Congress (provided they also gain control of the Senate). But even with control of only the House of Representatives, Republicans will be able to mount strong obstacles to the Biden administration’s legislative initiatives.

Since taking office in January 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Biden’s tenure in the White House has been marked by the economic wounds left by the global health crisis. This year his popularity dropped to 36% in May and June.

In recent weeks, President Biden has sought to rally voters around the Democratic commitment to safeguarding abortion rights, which has been severely curtailed by the Supreme Court’s decision — about four months ago — that overturned the landmark ruling in the case. “Row v. Wade.”

Nearly one in three respondents to the new Reuters/Ipsos poll cited the economy as the biggest problem facing the US, while one in 10 pointed to crime. Just one in 20 indicated the issue of abortion rights.

The poll was conducted among a representative sample of 1,005 adults, of which 447 said they supported the Democrats and 369 said they supported the Republicans. The margin of statistical error is ±4%.
