Qatar: Three firefighters killed in drill when crane collapses weeks before World Cup

Three Pakistani firefighters died in the Catarrh last Tuesday morning, just a few weeks before the start of the World Cup, when a crane collapsed during a safety drill they were carrying out.

Although authorities clarified that the three firefighters were not participating in a safety exercise related to the World Cupfriends of the three firefighters posted on social media that the firefighters were on a crane mounted on a fire truck that collapsed in the Qatari capital’s Hamad port during a separate training exercise that was underway.

According to the first information, the three victims were nationals of Qatar and Kuwait, however, it later became known that all three firefighters aged 30 were of Pakistani origin.

About two million migrant workers, mostly from southeast Asia, came to Qatar to help build the infrastructure for the World Cup.

Many of them have been killed on the construction sites while the non-existent labor rights and the violation of human rights of women and minorities are troubling the world public opinion

In particular, fifteen foreign governments, including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the Palestinian territories have sent security forces and experts to Qatar for the Watan security exercises, which conclude today.
