This, noted Manolis Kostidis, is a message to Ankara that Israel has had good relations with Athens and Nicosia for so many years, and will not spoil them for Turkey.
The attempt to “unfreeze” the Turkish-Israeli relations continues, this time with the visit to Ankara of the Israeli Defense Ministry, Benny Gantz.
However, as SKAI’s Istanbul correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports, the Israeli minister made it clear that the Greece and Cyprus they are friendly countries, and Israel maintains strong partnerships with them, and has talked about mediation. This, noted Manolis Kostidis, is a message to Ankara that Israel has had good relations with Athens and Nicosia for so many years, and he does not intend to spoil them for Turkey.
In particular, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar emphasized that “as Turkey, the development of our relations and cooperation with Israel, especially in areas such as defense, security and energy, will lead to important developments regarding regional peace and stability and will contribute significantly”.
“There are alliances and worrying threats, one of which is Iran. There is no doubt that Turkey, a member of NATO and an ally of our common friend the USA, plays an important role in ensuring global stability,” Benny Gantz noted for his part.
“While we maintain strong partnerships with our friends in Greece, Cyprus and the Gulf countries, our ties with Turkey have also turned in a positive direction. In fact, we can build bridges and reduce conflict to the benefit of all parties involved. In order to move forward, we must adopt a consistent, positive approach by maintaining open dialogue in our relationships. I instructed my team to initiate the necessary procedures to increase our work, as agreed in our discussions,” the Israeli minister emphasized.
Benny Gantz also met with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Israel wishes to have closer relations to counter Iran along with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Ankara wants to transport gas through Turkey, but in the defense sector there were reports of modernization and cooperation in the ground army. But I think it is too early to talk about these scenarios. Maybe there will be some joint exercises like Israeli fighter jets used to fly in Iconium…” commented Manolis Kostidis.
