On September 24, 2015, 2,300 people lost their lives in the massive crowding at the “Devil’s stoning” site in Mina, near Mecca. This was the worst disaster ever to occur in the history of the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Iran, which lost 464 people in the crash, blamed Saudi Arabia for lack of organization. Pilgrims explained that the stampede was due to the closure of a road near the stoning site and mismanagement of the flow of worshipers by security forces. Among the countries that mourned the most victims was Mali, with 282 dead.

On October 1, 2022, a crowd of people was trampled at the stadium in Malang, on the island of Java, when police tried to push back fans of the teams using tear gas. Among the 133 dead were 40 children.
