Attack on Pelosi’s home: “I wanted to kidnap her and break her knees,” the attacker said

After his arrest the 42-year-old gunman – a racist and Trump supporter – said he intended to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage to interrogate her because he held her responsible for the “lies” being spread by the Democratic Party.

Charges of attempted murder and kidnapping have been filed against the man who attacked the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi inside the couple’s home, US authorities announced Monday.

David DePape broke into the couple’s San Francisco home on Friday morning armed with rope, gloves and duct tape in search of Pelosi, with the intention of abducting her.

As he stated after his arrest, he wanted to “break” her knees if she answered “falsely” to his questions.

According to the US Department of Justice, DiPape intended to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of that crime.

For the attack against Paul Pelosi, the 42-year-old perpetrator risks being sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.

The attack

Paul Pelosi, 82, who was knocked unconscious after the attack, later told police he was asleep when a stranger, armed with a hammer, entered his second-floor bedroom and woke him up, demanding he speak to his wife.

According to what he stated, he told the assailant that his wife would be away for several days, at which point the assailant replied that he would be waiting for her. Paul Pelosi indicated to police that he managed to escape DiPape’s attention and go to the bathroom from where he called the police.

After his arrest the attacker stated that he intended to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage to interrogate her because he held her responsible for the “lies” being spread by the Democratic Party. He even added that if she told him “the truth”, he would let her go, but if she told him “lies”, he would break her knees.

DiPape clarified that he did not leave the Pelosi home after the police were called because “like the Fathers of the American Nation with the British, he too was fighting against tyranny without the option of surrendering.”

Authorities said officers who arrived at the home saw DePape and Paul Pelosi fighting over a hammer. When the officers yelled at them to put it down, DePape grabbed the hammer and hit Pelosi in the head with it.

The perpetrator is a racist, Trump supporter

DiPape, who lived in a garage in a small town near San Francisco, had in recent months posted anti-minorities, anti-Jewish, anti-women and anti-transgender comments on social media while alleging massive fraud in the 2020 election. and that covid-19 vaccines don’t work.

Last night, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins also announced new charges, including attempted murder and burglary, this time at the state rather than federal level.

It was a “politically motivated” attack and DePape could face a life sentence, Jenkins said during a news conference.

Nancy Pelosi said she was “shocked” by the attack and noted last night that her husband was making “continued progress in his recovery which is expected to be lengthy.”

This attack occurred about ten days before the US midterm elections.
