Germany: Activists blocked main roads – They even blocked an ambulance!

by

The Berlin Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an investigation into possible criminal responsibilities of the activists

Their actions are now causing strong reactions climate activists, which cause almost daily traffic chaos on the streets of Berlin. Yesterday, Monday, such an action caused an ambulance and a special rescue vehicle to be unable to reach the scene of a serious accident and a helicopter intervention was needed.

“Shh… but don’t let them scare you. It’s a “fight for the climate”, not “hugs for the climate” and it happens and sk…,” Tanzio Muller, one of the organizers of the activist actions, wrote on Twitter, referring to the accident. A woman, who was riding a bicycle, was hit by a concrete mixer, as a result of which she was trapped for an hour under the heavy vehicle.

According to BILD, the woman is in intensive care and is now at risk of having her leg amputated. The rescuers could not reach the scene, as could the special vehicle that would move the concrete mixer. In addition, the driver of the truck was violently attacked by passers-by and is hospitalized with injuries.

The Berlin Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an investigation into possible criminal liability of the activists, while a spokesman for the municipality said: “We must now say goodbye to the fairy tale of harmless protest. Anyone who blocks high-traffic roads risks and impedes the ability of homeland security to act and knowingly accepts that people in need will have to wait longer for help from the police and fire department.”

From the Christian Democratic Party (CDU), Frank Bulger asked for the intervention of the prosecuting authorities, as, he said, for weeks police and rescuers have to constantly make detours because main roads are blocked. “So far the response has been very mild,” he said, while Berlin’s Home Affairs Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) called the situation “intolerable”, pointing out that “there is no justification for endangering the lives of others”. The Liberal Party (FDP) in a statement proposed the creation of a central platform through which claims for compensation in such cases would be submitted.
