The head of NATO will have contacts on the major issue of Ankara’s objections regarding the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO
The Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg is going to go to Turkey tomorrow, Thursday, for a three-day visit, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
In today’s announcement, the ministry says that Stoltenberg will be received by the Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan.
The NATO chief will also meet with the foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and the Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar.
The talks will focus on extending the Ukrainian grain export agreement and the NATO membership of Sweden and Finland, countries that Turkey accuses of supporting terrorist organizations.
Cavusoglu also had a telephone conversation with his Dutch counterpart Bopke Hoekstra. The two officials referred to the agreement on grain exports, as well as the latest developments in Ukraine, where Russia launched a “special military operation” in February, as reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
According to diplomatic sources cited by the AnatoliaCavusoglu and Hukstra also discussed the problems Turkish citizens face with visas.
The Turkish foreign minister also met in Ankara with Geir Pedersen, UN special envoy to Syria. Cavusoglu wrote on Twitter that he “discussed the latest developments in Syria and reiterated our support for the political process.”
