German government asks Rome to allow disembarkation of 104 unaccompanied minors on board Humanity 1 south of Sicily
Germany has asked in a letter to Italy to immediately allow the disembarkation of 104 unaccompanied minors, who are on the ship Humanity 1, which ten days ago rescued migrants who were in danger of drowning south of Sicily.
The ship belongs to a German non-governmental organization, at least according to today’s reports in the Italian press.
For its part, the Italian government made it known that it asked the German embassy in Rome to be informed of the exact situation on the ship, how many passengers there are, if any of them have health problems and if a request for international protection has already been submitted.
This confrontation is a consequence of the new line followed by the Meloni government in immigration and refugee matters. It is recalled that the Prime Minister of Italy insists on the willingness to welcome refugees, but not the “illegal economic immigrants” who are on NGO ships.
