Russia’s ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, has claimed he has “evidence” that British special forces were involved in a drone attack on the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.

In an interview he gave to Sky News, he said that these receipts had been handed over to the British ambassador in Moscow.

“We are fully aware of the involvement of British specialists in the training, preparation and execution of violent actions against Russian infrastructure and the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. We know it has been done,” said the Russian diplomat.

Mr Kellin then commented that Britain was “very deeply” involved in the conflict in Ukraine and when pressed to reveal the evidence he was referring to, said it would “be released very soon, maybe today, maybe tomorrow”.

He accused Britain of making the situation more dangerous by escalating the tension.

A spokesman for the British government responded that in recent days the Russian side has made a series of accusations against the United Kingdom, which are “clearly designed to distract attention from Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.”

Andriy Kelin also dismissed concerns about his country’s use of nuclear weapons. “Nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought. And we strongly stand by that statement,” he said.

Asked whether Moscow could use a tactical nuclear weapon, he replied: “No. The world has every assurance that Russia is not going to use a tactical nuclear weapon in the conflict in Ukraine.”
