Pakistan: Imran Khan accuses PM and interior minister of assassination attempt

Khan presented no evidence to substantiate his claims

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan today accused his successor in the government, Mr Shehbaz Sharifthe interior minister Rana Sanaullah and a high-ranking military official that they planned the assassination attempt on him.

“These three have decided to kill me,” Khan said in a message broadcast on his party’s YouTube channel.

This was the first public appearance of Khan, who is being treated at her hospital Lahorefollowing Thursday’s attack.

The former prime minister said the attackers were two and opened fire on the protesters who were marching towards the capital Islamabad, led by him. One person was killed and 11 others were injured.

Khan presented no evidence to substantiate his claims. But he added that he would continue the march to Islamabad after recovering from his injuries.

The former cricket star is “in a stable condition and doing well” at the Lahore hospital where he is being treated, his doctor said today.

The 70-year-old Han started last Friday a “great march” towards Islamabad in which thousands of his supporters are participating, demanding early elections, the first step to return to power.

He was shot at least once in the right leg during the attack when a man opened fire with an automatic weapon on the container mounted on a truck from which Khan usually addresses the crowd at the start of the march.

The assassination attempt took place in Wazirabad, about 170 kilometers east of the capital Islamabad.
