Rumeysa Gelgi, who is more than 2 meters tall, is officially considered the tallest woman alive by winning the Guinness World Record this year.

The world’s tallest woman has taken her first air trip after Turkish Airlines adapted one of its planes especially to accommodate her.

Rumeysa Gelgi, who is more than 2 meters tall, is officially considered the tallest woman alive by winning the Guinness World Record this year.

She usually gets around in a wheelchair or with the aid of a walker, her enormous stature the result of a condition called Weaver syndrome which, among other things, causes accelerated growth.

Gelgi, 24, had never traveled by plane before, as she was too tall to fit into regular airline seats even as a child.

But she is now able to travel abroad and flew to San Francisco in September thanks to Turkish Airlines, which removed six seats from one of its planes and replaced them with a custom-made stretcher to allow Gelgi to fly in comfort.

Posting on Instagram after landing in California, the world’s tallest woman said: ‘Flawless trip from start to finish… this was my first plane ride but it certainly won’t be my last… I sincerely thank everyone who contributed to my trip.”
