Parts of Africa are suffocating in millions of second-hand clothes shipped out by the fast fashion industry every year.

According to the ABC, more than 15 million second-hand clothes are sent to places like Ghana from the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.

At least 40 percent is of poor quality, rendering it unusable, and is sent straight to landfills that spill over into residential areas.

The average American reportedly throws away 70 pounds of clothing and other textiles each year.

And the amount they buy is expected to increase by 63 percent by 2030.
