Kyiv: Talks… with Putin’s successor

by

“Important: Ukraine never refused the talks. Our position is known and open. First, withdrawal of troops from our lands, second is all the rest. Is Putin ready for this? Of course not,” said Mihailos Podoliak

The adviser to the head of the office of the president of Ukraine, Mr Michael Podoliak, commented on the Washington Post newspaper article according to which the US is encouraging the Ukrainian leadership to start talks with the Kremlin. According to the same publication, the US will even insist on such talks if the Ukrainian army regains control of Peninsula and this will enable dialogue to be conducted from a position of strength.

Commenting on the publication, Podoliak wrote on Twitter: “Important: Ukraine never refused the talks. Our position is known and open. First, withdrawal of troops from our lands, second is all the rest. Is Putin ready for this? Of course not. Since things are like this, then according to our own constructive assessment we will talk with the next leader of Russia”.

The Kremlin he says he’s open to talks. Russian President Dmitry Peskov’s spokesman said today that this is Russia’s consistent position, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree banning them.

It is recalled that a similar document has been signed in response to the “referendums” and Russia’s attempt to annex the territories it has occupied.
