The “dream” will fly again: Ukrainians build new beast Antonov An-225 aircraft

The only Antonov 225 in service was destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine – The beastly aircraft had landed in Athens in 2020.

The “dream” will fly again. The reason for a second beast Antonov An-225 (called “Mariya”, meaning dream in Ukrainian), which is already being built by the Ukrainian authorities. The new Mriya will be built in Ukraine, General Director of Antonov State Enterprise Yevgeny Gavrilov said.

The Antonov An-225 Mriya (Ukrainian: Антонов Ан-225 Мрия, was a transport aircraft manufactured by Antonov in 1988 in the Soviet Union. It was the largest aircraft in the world, designed to carry the Buran space shuttle, and is an enlargement of the An-124 Ruslan.After the Buran program was discontinued, the Antonov An-225 was made available for commercial heavy-lift transport due to its large interior fuselage space.The only Antonov 225 in service was destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The legendary behemoth was destroyed by Russian bombing a day after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 25. It was bombed and completely destroyed during heavy fighting at its military airfield. Hostomel.

For Ukrainians, building a new Antonov is a matter of honor, but it symbolizes it rebuilding their own country after the war.
