Elon Musk’s tweet caused a storm of reactions. The CEO of Tesla and Twitter posted a photo of a World War II soldier with a cage and three carrier pigeons on his back and the caption “three unread messages.”

Musk, the world’s richest man, then commented on “how times have changed”, before adding: “Back when birds were real. But if Twitter is a bird, that means…”.
He compared the pigeons in the image to Twitter’s blue bird and its 115 million followers, with the image of the soldier sparking outrage.
Users noted that he was a Wehrmacht soldier from Nazi Germany, but he was not wearing any visible insignia.
One user, who claimed to be a “descendant of a Holocaust survivor” called the post “unacceptable”.
Others commented: “It really makes me sick… There should be consequences for using images like this. Advertisers should withdraw their spending on Twitter.”
Pictured is a German Wehrmacht soldier, a member of the united Nazi armed forces, carrying carrier pigeons on the Western Front during the German invasion of France, known as the Battle of France, in World War II, circa May 1940.
Human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky pointed out that this is a Nazi soldier, asking Musk if it was “intentional”.
Musk, who has described himself as a “Twitter Complaint Hotline Operator” has maintained his position despite the backlash.
The company says it has gained users since Musk took over the site following its $44 billion acquisition.
