A 35-year-old Russian diplomat was found dead in front of his country’s embassy in Berlin under unclear circumstances.

According to information from the German magazine Der Spiegel, the Berlin police located the lifeless body of the Russian diplomat on the sidewalk in front of the Russian embassy building on October 19, at around 7:20.

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said today that the ministry had been informed of the incident, but added that it could not provide further details on privacy concerns.

According to Der Spiegel, the man seems to have fallen from the window of the highest floor of the Russian embassy, ​​located in the Mite district of Berlin. Sources in the security services pointed out that the circumstances under which the incident took place as well as the causes of death have not been clarified. The corpse of the diplomat, according to the German magazine, has been transported to Russia.

The embassy has not commented on the incident.

According to the official list of Russian diplomats, the 35-year-old was accredited in the summer of 2019 as the second secretary of the embassy.

According to German security sources, the diplomat was an undercover agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), Der Spiegel reported.
