Podcast: The Result of the US Midterms and the Political Future of Biden and Trump

by

Americans went to the polls on Tuesday (8) to renew the House and part of the Senate in the so-called midterm elections, usually seen as a referendum on the administration of the president – which often loses ground in Congress. But Joe Biden’s Democratic Party fared better than expected, beating Republicans in key states.

With the poor performance of the opposition, especially names supported by former President Donald Trump, the chess for the 2024 presidential election gets more complicated. Trump is expected to announce his candidacy in the coming days, but he will have to face Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who was handily re-elected Tuesday and is expected to seek the Republican nomination for the White House.

In this Friday’s episode (11), Café da Manhã talks with the correspondent of Sheet in Washington, Thiago Amâncio, on why the Republicans did not have the expected results and what that means for the 2024 race in the USA.
