Protester sentenced to death in Iran for participating in riots

A court of Tehran sentenced to death today, for the first time, a person accused of participating in the “riots”, the judiciary agency, Mizan, said in an online post.

According to verdict which sentences him to death, the person was found guilty of “arson of a government building, disturbance of public order, assembly and conspiracy to commit a crime against national security and an enemy of God and corruption in the land”the agency reported.

Another court in the capital also sentenced five people to prison terms of 5 to 10 years for “assembling and conspiring to commit crimes against national security and disturbing public order.”

It’s about decisions courts of first instance and therefore the convicted can appeal, clarifies Mizan.

Iran has been rocked for weeks by a wave of protests following the death of 22-year-old Masha Amini while being detained by morality police for not wearing her hijab properly.
