The big bell of Big Ben – the clock tower at the north end of the Palaces of Westminster in London, rang again yesterday, Sunday, after 5 years of “silence” due to renovation work

Big Ben, the 96m Victorian tower, rang for the last time at 12 noon on 21/08/2017. Yesterday, Britain’s most famous bell returned to normal operation to mark Remembrance Day

The 13.5 tonne bell will now mark the hours of the day while four smaller ‘quarter bells’ will ring every 15 minutes with a series of melodies. Each hour hand of the clock is 2.7 m long and weighs 300 kg, while each minute hand is 4.2 m long and weighs approximately 100 kg.
