The Kremlin assessed that some countries made “baseless statements” with Dmitry Peskov telling reporters that Russia had nothing to do with the incident, which it explained was caused by an S-300 air defense system.

Peskov added that he did not know whether special communication channels with the US and NATO had been activated, but stressed that the American reaction was “restrained” compared to that of other countries.

Russia’s defense ministry also said it did not target Kyiv during yesterday’s extensive strikes.

Reuters reporters in the city reported rocket strikes, including at residential buildings, and power outages in the city yesterday in some of the worst attacks since Russia invaded Ukraine nine months ago.
