Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson received approx 315,000 euros for a speech he delivered last October at a conference of insurance companies in the United States, according to the House of Commons register in which MPs report their incomes.

In particular, the entry states that Boris Johnson received £276,130 (€314,830) for a 30-minute speech and his participation in a 45-minute discussion before insurance agents and consultants in Colorado Springs. Johnson reported that he worked a total of 8.5 hours, which translates to an hourly wage of €37,000. He had also arranged free transport and accommodation for himself and two companions.

The trip to the United States came about a month after he left Downing Street and just days before he attempted a spectacular comeback to succeed Liz Truss, who succeeded him for a few weeks and resigned on October 20. Eventually Boris Johnson backed down and Rishi Sunak took over as Conservative leader and Prime Minister of Britain.

Boris Johnson, who holds the parliamentary seat and is therefore required to register his income, also said he received €13,180 from Rupert Murdoch for travel and accommodation expenses for a meeting in Montana, US, where the media mogul owns a ranch.
