The governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, urged citizens to wear… a turtleneck to keep warm in order to reduce energy consumption.

The Japanese capital has set some guidelines on how to reduce energy use this winter.

In fact, Yuriko Koike, when asked if turtlenecks are appropriate clothing for workplaces, replied that the French president, Emmanuel Macron, is a source of inspiration, as he is known to like turtlenecks.

“Even in Europe, the French president Macron is leading the way in their use,” he said, underlining that turtlenecks are “one of the tools to overcome (the winter energy crisis) while being inventive.”

Earlier this month, the Japanese government asked people to turn off unnecessary lights, wear warm clothes indoors and lower the heating temperature between December 1 and March 31.
