According to a new report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
Turkish raids in northern Syria have caused death at least 31 people, mostly Kurdish fighters and Syrian soldiers, according to a new report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The airstrikes launched last night and today before dawn by the Turkish army in the provinces of Raqqa and Hasakeh (northeast) and Aleppo (north) killed 18 Kurdish fighters and members of local allied forces, 12 Syrian soldiers as well as a civilian, said the Observatory, which has a wide network of sources in war-torn Syria. 40 people were also injured.
Ankara officially announced this morning the launch of the “Forked Sword” air operation in northern Iraq and Syria, areas it considers “used as bases by Kurdish terrorists”.
“The planes have taken off from their bases, the air operation has begun,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement, a week after the bloody attack in Istanbul.
The operation is being conducted “based on the legitimate rights of defense as provided for in Article 51 of the UN Charter, in order to neutralize terrorist attacks from northern Iraq and Syria, ensure border security and eliminate terrorism at its source,” the announcement added.
