A joint press release by G7 foreign ministers released by the State Department stressed that North Korea’s repeated missile launches “further destabilize the region, despite the international community’s calls for peace and stability.”

The governments of the world’s seven most industrialized countries on Sunday denounced North Korea’s “irresponsible” launch of a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and demanded that the UN Security Council take new, “significant” measures to end the arms embargo. Pyongyang tests.

A joint press release by G7 foreign ministers released by the State Department stressed that North Korea’s repeated missile launches “further destabilize the region, despite the international community’s calls for peace and stability.”

The missile tested by Pyongyang on Friday is believed to be its new ICBM, with an effective range that allows it to bomb the continental US.

The joint statement by the heads of diplomacy of the Group of Seven member states calls for a “united and robust response by the international community” to the launch and calls for a “need” for the UN Security Council to take “further significant measures”.

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Britain, Japan and the USA. The press release is signed by the High Representative of the European Union, Giuseppe Borrell.

North Korea has conducted an unprecedented number of missile tests since November, including the ICBM that landed on Friday inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), off the island of Hokkaido.

North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said the weapon tested was the Hwasong-17, which military experts call a “monster missile.”

The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted more than ten resolutions imposing sanctions on North Korea over its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs since 2006.

The statement by G7 foreign ministers reiterated the demand that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program be ended in a “verifiable” manner and added that the isolated country “will never attain nuclear power status.”
