At least 44 people were killed in an earthquake that shook Indonesia’s main island, Java, on Monday, a spokesman for the local government said.
“There are dozens of people dead. Hundreds, maybe thousands of houses were destroyed. So far, 44 people have died,” Adam, spokesman for the local administration of the city of Cianjur (110 km southeast of the capital Jakarta), told AFP. who like many Indonesians has only one name.
