Dairy company presents women as cows: Sorry after the uproar (vid)

by

South Korea’s largest dairy brand has been forced to apologize after an ad portrayed women as cows.

The reason for Seoul Milk, whose video shows a man secretly videotaping a group of women in an idyllic pasture who later turn into cows. The video caused a stir in the Asian country, with the company removing the ad from YouTube, but has since gone viral after being re-uploaded by Internet users. Some even compared the man’s behavior to the so-called “Molka” illegal practice in South Korea, that is, the secret videotaping of people….

“We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with the milk ad that was released on the 29th of last month,” Seoul Milk’s parent company Seoul Dairy Cooperative said in an apology posted online.

“We are taking this issue seriously and we will conduct an internal evaluation and take special care to prevent similar incidents in the future. “We bow our heads in apology,” the statement added.

The video in question begins with a young man with a camera wandering in the countryside. “Finally we managed to immortalize them on camera in a place of pristine cleanliness,” a male voice is heard. The man appears hidden in bushes, videotaping a group of women drinking water from a stream or doing yoga. When a man accidentally steps on a branch, he frightens the women who suddenly turn into cows!

The ad ends with the slogan “Clean water, organic feed, 100% pure milk Seoul. Organic ranch organic milk in the pleasant nature of Cheongyang “.

The ad has sparked a national debate over sexism and gender sensitivity issues, but the criticism is not limited to women portrayed as cows. Some have also expressed concern about the man who secretly videotaped the women’s group, with similar illegal behavior in South Korea increasing in recent years.

Molka literally translates to “secret camera”, and has become a particular problem for women in South Korea.

This is not the first time Seoul Milk has made headlines for the wrong reasons. In 2003 the company organized a show in which nude models sprayed each other with yogurt. The head of Seoul Milk’s marketing department and the models who took part in the event were fined for insulting public decency.
