Turkey expects Sweden to identify those responsible, the diplomatic sources added

Turkey’s foreign ministry summoned Sweden’s ambassador in Ankara today to ask for an investigation by Swedish authorities into an “incident” that took place in Stockholm and is considered an “insult” to the president Recep Tayyip Erdogantwo diplomatic sources said.

According to these sources, a group of “supporters” of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, organized a protest mobilization near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. Those gathered threw leaflets at the building with slogans – which Ankara describes as “terrorist propaganda” – and content it considers offensive to Erdogan.

Turkey expects Sweden to identify those responsible, the diplomatic sources added.

The episode comes at a critical time for bilateral relations as Sweden, like Finland, waits for Turkey to approve their accession to the NATO.

Protesters in Stockholm were calling for Sweden to impose an arms embargo on Turkey and cancel a deal the two countries reached over the summer so Ankara would lift its reservations about Sweden joining NATO.
