by

In March – with retroactive effect from January – it will be implemented ceiling on the maximum price of natural gas and electricity planned by the federal government.

According to Der Spiegel magazineEconomy Minister Robert Habeck filed a 96-page draft law earlier today to hold down the price of natural gas and electricity.

The cost of the project is estimated by the ministry at 54 billion euros and foresees that private individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises will pay 80% of their consumption in natural gas and electricity with 12 and 9.5 cents/kWh respectively.

Industrial customers will pay 70% of natural gas consumption and 80% of heat consumption at 7 and 7.7 cents/kWh respectively.

Hambeck’s proposal is expected to be approved by tomorrow’s cabinet and then forwarded to the federal parliament, where it should be voted on by the end of the year at the latest. It should then be implemented by energy providers.
