However, researchers give the explanation, without… squaring the circle, as it is nonsensical and has no metaphysical element.
“It appears that the sheep have been in that particular pen for a long time, and this can lead to stereotyped behaviour, with repeated cycles because of stress because they are limited,” Matt Bell, a professor in the Department of Agriculture at Hartpury University in Britain, told Newsweek. “Some start and then the other sheep join the circle, as these are animals that live in herds, and they join their “friends”.
“The social behavior of sheep is dominated by herd logic, which controls the movements of animals and protects them from predators by prompting them to flee from danger as a group,” also stated in the Merck Veterinary Manual.
