The official Rodong Simun newspaper today published at least ten photos of Kim Jong Un with hundreds of civilians and military personnel during the ceremony. Kim was accompanied by his “beloved daughter”, whose existence was first revealed last week.

In the new photos, Kim Jong-un and his daughter Yoo Ae, smilingly pose with soldiers and walk hand-in-hand, while the crowd spontaneously and enthusiastically applauds them (as always).

In general, Kim’s pre-Soviet life is shrouded in mystery and no information is given. The North Korean leader married in 2009 and is believed to be the father of three children – two girls and a boy.

The age of Kim Jong Un’s daughter is unknown: the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) refers to her as “the beloved daughter” without giving any other information.

Some argue that Yoo Ae is 12-13 years old, however there are also some who say she could be 9 years old.

Yoo Ae’s surprise appearance has fueled speculation about the future succession of the Kim dynasty in North Korea. Kim Jong Un succeeded his father, Kim Jong Il, who in turn succeeded his own father, Kim Il Sung, so it is difficult for one of his daughters to succeed him.

For Yang Moo-jin, a professor at Seoul University of North Korean Studies, the presence of Kim Jong Un’s daughter is intended to portray Hwasong-17 as the “protector of the next generation.” “It seems that he will continue to show off his daughter on various occasions and use her as a propaganda tool,” he added.
