The Single Vaccination and Immunization Committee in the United Kingdom has decided to include pregnant women in the priority categories for coronavirus vaccination.

They now fall into the sixth priority category, ie with adults under the age of 65 who have chronic health problems.

The committee strongly urges pregnant women to take the two doses and then the reminder, citing data from an Oxford University study showing an increased risk of serious illness and pregnancy complications in the event of a coronavirus infection.

The study found that 17 pregnant women died during the Delta Outbreak, which is a 50% increase in normal mortality.

Also, 1,436 pregnant women were admitted to hospital during the same period, with one in three in need of artificial respiration, one in 50 giving birth to a stillborn baby and the same percentage having a miscarriage. One in five of them gave birth prematurely.

The head of the committee, Professor Wei Sen Lim, said that despite the risk from COVID-19, there was no evidence that the vaccines were dangerous for pregnant women.

At the same time, it was announced that a new record was set on Wednesday in the number of booster doses administered in the United Kingdom, namely 745,183.

Another 821,075 appointments were made for the third installment, only yesterday.
