American pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced today its intention to invest 1.2 billion euros in the city of Pours, Belgium, over the next three years.

This is the largest investment ever made in this production plant, which currently employs 4,500 people and is one of the largest factories of the American giant in the world, reports the Belgian newspaper “Le Soir”.

The Pfizer plant in Pource gained global notoriety around the end of 2020 as it was chosen by the American company to produce the mRNA vaccine against Covid-19 (the Comirnaty) that it developed with BioNTech.

As he mentions “Le Soir”, the factory in Pours covers an area of ​​more than 100 acres and specializes in the manufacture and packaging of sterile injectable drugs and vaccines, either in the form of vials, ampoules or syringes. The €1.2 billion investment will be used to expand all production stages. This investment is expected to enable the creation of 250 additional jobs at the pharmaceutical industry’s facilities. Employment has already increased significantly in Ports after the production of the Covid vaccine. The workforce has grown from 2,800 to 4,500 since the start of the pandemic.
